Information about GTA's clothing limits, related crashes, and how to fix them.
If you've ever modded LSPD:FR, or owned a law enforcement-centric FiveM server, you've certainly used EUP (Emergency Uniforms Pack). EUP is an incredible resource for customizing the MP Freemode character, but it comes with its flaws.
YMT files are a special type of file in GTA. When you create an addon DLC package for EUP, the YMT file tells the game what slots to allocate for clothing, whether that's hats, jackets, textures, or anything else.
Standard YMT files aren't the only thing that eats into the limit, though. If your pack includes props with high heels or hats that cut or remove hair, a "creaturemetadata" file is also generated. This counts toward the YMT limit as well, meaning one pack can contribute 3 YMT files instead of just 2.
The limit itself is per-gender, and it shrinks with every game version as Rockstar adds new GTA:O clothing and fills up the available slots.
Hard limits:
You can raise the prop limit using the PedProp Limit Adjuster by Zombieguy and the FiveM team. FiveM already patches this limit by default.
| Game Version | Free YMT Slots |
|---|---|
| 3095 | ~10 |
| 3258 | ~8 |
| 3407 | ~6 |
| 3570 | ~5 |
| 3717 | ~4 |
The available slots shrink as versions go on. Notable exception: in game version 2612, Rockstar appears to have increased the limit, jumping to approximately 20 free YMT slots.
This is an issue that's simple to understand but tedious to resolve. You have two main options.
Condense everything into fewer addon EUP packs
This is the most universal solution and works for both singleplayer and FiveM, but it's also the most time-consuming, depending on how experienced you are.
Luckily, there are tools to make this easier, like grzyClothTool, a free, open-source clothing tool designed for managing addon EUP packages, with export options for both FiveM and singleplayer.
I'd give an exhaustive usage tutorial, but there's honestly too much to cover here. Fortunately, my good friend Korrupt, a member of the BlueLine Vibes support team, put together an excellent quick-start video on using grzyClothTool to consolidate your EUP into one or more addon packages.
Use MPClothes
MpClothes is an easy-to-use pre-made addon DLC package that lets you quickly drop in any EUP pack. The main downside is that pants are known to not always work correctly, or at all. If that's not a dealbreaker, this method is generally easier than grzyClothTool for most people.
The number in a YTD or YDD filename corresponds to its slot. Each file's number must be unique and must match between the YDD and its YTD counterpart.
For textures, the letter in the filename (like _a_) denotes the texture slot, running A to Z. To add more texture variations for a model, duplicate an existing texture, rename the letter to the next available slot, and swap in the new texture.
GTA clothing is a beast, but one you can tame with a bit of practice. I hope this guide has been useful. If so, please share the link with others; it helps more than you know. Huge credit to Korrupt for letting me include his tutorial, and to the Durty Cloth Tool developers for their extensive research into this topic. You can find more from them on the subject here.
